How do I use my wood wick candle? (Tips & Troubleshooting)
Wood wicks create a cozy crackle and a beautiful burn, but they work a little differently than cotton wicks.
Here are some quick tips:
First Burn Matters
-
Burn your candle for 3–4 hours on the first use, or until the wax melts fully edge-to-edge.
-
Extinguishing too early can cause “tunneling,” where the candle only burns down the middle.
Lighting & Wick Care
-
Wood wicks may take a couple of tries to light — start from a corner.
-
Keep the wick ¼ inch above the wax. Too short = not enough oxygen.
-
Before each burn, trim or pinch off any charred bits for a clean flame.
Troubleshooting Tips
-
Tunneling? Wrap the top with aluminum foil (slightly tented) to help the wax melt evenly.
-
Won’t stay lit? Relight a few times from the corner. If it’s still too short, gently grip the wick with pliers and raise it just a touch.
👉 These issues are rare, but knowing how to care for your wood wick will give you a longer-lasting, more enjoyable burn!
